On one side of this piece we find honey brown, botryoidal orpiment. The material on the other side is yellow and orange. The brown side shows a few tiny, brilliant red realgar crystals and the orange side, several very nice barites.

Orpiment is a deep orange-yellow colored arsenic sulfide mineral. It is found in volcanic fumaroles, low temperature hydrothermal veins and hot springs. This specimen was taken from the Quiruvilca Mine, located in Santiago de Chuco Province, La Libertad Department, Peru.

Metaphysically, orpiment stimulates anything sluggish. Working in the base and sacral chakras, it increases physical energy and combats energy depletion. Orpiment aids the left hemisphere of the brain, promoting rational and constructive thought. In healing, orpiment may clear disorders associated with the base and sacral chakras.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Orpiment contains arsenic sulfide and is toxic. It must never be ingested internally in any way. Wash hands after handling. Use care around children and pets.
