Alabandite, Uchucchaqua Mine, Peru, MM#7

Alabandite, Uchucchaqua Mine, Peru, MM#7, 33mm x 33mm x 20mm, 39.8 grams, Price: $45.00

This piece presents quite a little collection of minerals. Black, massive alabandite, carries some crystalline alabandite as well as pale green fluorite, white calcite and just a trace of pink rhodochrosite. Under UV light, the fluorite fluoresces blue and the calcite is hot pink. The largest alabandite measures 12mm.

Alabandite, also known as alabandine, is a rare manganese sulfide mineral. It is commonly found as massive to granular aggregates, but only rarely as cubic or actahedral crystals. Alabandite forms in epithermal sulfide veins and low temperature manganese deposits. It is known from over 200 sites worldwide. These specimens originate from Peru, at the Uchucchaqua Mine, Oyon Province, Lima Department.
