This mostly massive piece shows two areas of nicely formed crystals of alabandite. We also find a patch of botryoidal pink rhodochrosite, surrounded by tiny quartz points.

Alabandite, also known as alabandine, is a rare manganese sulfide mineral. It is commonly found as massive to granular aggregates, but only rarely as cubic or actahedral crystals. Alabandite forms in epithermal sulfide veins and low temperature manganese deposits. It is known from over 200 sites worldwide. These specimens originate from Peru, at the Uchucchaqua Mine, Oyon Province, Lima Department.
